King of Dragon Pass is full of myths, legends and prophecies. During the span of your reign, you will hear several of the latter from the nobles of your clan.

(Note: Not quite sure if these prophecies have an actual affect on the game, or are just flavour text though.)

Arrival of the Blue Men[]

This is a prophecy by <X> of the <Y> clan, who is known for predicting the arrival of the Chariot Men, who appeared the next year.  "When the Blue Men come, the one who prospers is the one who puts a poisoned cow in the lagoon."

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Best Thing[]

There is a prophecy spoke by <X> of the <Y> clan, who is known for striking down the Dog-Bringing People.  "Love is the best thing, for it makes the blood rush without war."

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Chieftain's Twins[]

While at the <X> market, I heard a poet say that twins will be born to a chieftain's wife, and these twins will speak with the accent of Tarsh, a nation to the north. They will demonstrate magical powers before they are six, find hidden wisdom before they are nine, and vanish before they are twelve.

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Clay Jugs[]

This is a prophecy spoken by <X> of the <Y> clan, who is known for performing the Ernalda Feeds the Tribe heroquest and bringing blessings to her people:  "The clay jugs of Pela will be found by a stickpicker, and will win him the hand of a chieftain's daughter."

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Dragon's Firstborn Son[]

A prophecy, first whispered by the gentlest wind spirits, then sung by the small pools of water which collect after an evening rain, and passing to the lips of children in the form of a nonsense rhyme, has now reached the understanding of adult men and women.  It says, "Many years ago, the dragon's firstborn son was sent to the protection of the Island of Hills.  But the chieftains of that land were capricious and cruel, or maybe just crazy, and proved a greater threat to the safety of the dragon's son than anyone else.  Long has he been in bondage, but now from the ashes of the dragon a great carriage arises, a carriage designed by Goldentongue.  Those who help build it will be rewarded by the freedom of the dragon's son and a glorious new day will begin.

Fiery Spearmen[]

This is a prophecy spoken by <X> of the <Y> clan,<Z>.  "The fiery spearmen who fight with gravity are coming, and will strip the land of its goodness."

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Variants: Z is the person's claim to fame.  They include:

  • who is known for sifting the flour to make the Speaking Bread
  • who is known for walking across Heortland in the Mixing Bag

Great Secret[]

This is a prophecy spoken by <X> of the <Y> clan, who is known for predicting the arrival of the Chariot Men, who appeared the next year:  "One of your god-talkers will discover a great secret, but jealousy will be his undoing."

–Clan Thane,King of Dragon Pass

Great Tribe[]

I know of a prophecy which might concern us. I heard it in the ringing of swords as out weaponthanes sparred. The prophecy said that we would found a great tribe, just as Orlanth did when Ernalda told him he must make something which would rival the Fire Tribe.

–Clan Thane,King of Dragon Pass

Rune Animals[]

Strange tidings.  A <X> was born in <Y>'s stead, with a <Z> Rune on its forehead.  No one knows what this means, but everyone has a theory.

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Variants:

  • X = horse, cow, alynx
  • Z = Storm, Dragon, Mobility

Shield-Cradled Baby[]

An infant cradled in a shield in the wilderness will grow up to be a mighty warrior, so the stories say.

Stead in Two Worlds[]

I heard a prophecy from a god-talker of the <X> clan, who heard it from the Cow Tending Woman of the <Y> clan, who heard it from a shaman, who was born with this prophecy on his lips. A woman will come to us with many promises of making something new, and we are to support her in all things. We will be rewarded with a stead half in this world and half in the Realm of Orlanth.

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Taste of Victory[]

The morale of the weaponthanes has suffered a blow.  They heard a prophecy which said that they would taste no true victory for the next six years.

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Truth of Things[]

This is a prophecy spoken by <X> of the <Y> clan, who is known for tasting the honey of Asrelia while walking in the earth:  "The things we suppose to be true are real only in the evanescence of midnight."

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Uniter of Tribes[]

While I dreamt last night, I learned a prophecy about our land.  It said that a great king would arise to unite the tribes into something more than a tribe, and that he would do so with strange magic and unfamiliar wisdom.  Some say that it will be the <X Tribe> who do this thing, but I think it should be us.

Variant:  While poring through a jumbled text from the Empire of Wyrm's friends, I learned a prophecy about our land.

–Clan Thane, King of Dragon Pass

Wildday Ale[]

There is a prophecy current among the god-talkers of the <name> clan, who say there's a type of ale which is normal and safe when brewed on any day of the week except Wildday. The clan that makes this brew do not know this, and will brew a batch on Wildday, and a king will drink of it, and the king will die. Then the herons will flock to Mount Kero Fin, and all will hear their weeping.
