It is assumed weaponthanes represent the will of the clan ring in their actions and deeds.  Of course, this is far from reality.  If a weaponthane wishes to start a feud, often all it takes is one deliberately badly spoken word.

Event Dialogue[]

<X> complains that while he was a guest at the <Y clan> market, he was bullied, and insulted by a pair of their weaponthanes.  "They called us stickpickers, lichen eaters, and rag-wearers.  They said that our men are too friendly with our sheep because our women do not bear looking at.  They said that Chalana Arroy cries whenever we use the word 'mercy' and that Humakt spits whenver we say 'honor'."
  1. Convince <X> to forget these insults
  2. Do nothing
  3. Raid them
  4. Send for shamans to curse them
  5. Threaten them with a raid

Consequences[]

  • Sometimes it is best to forget an insult, especially if you're currently in a weakened state.  If your persuasion succeeds, then the clan forgets the incident.
  • Doing nothing, though, can lessen the respect of your clan.
  • A successful raid will certainly make the point you aren't to be messed with, but a failed one will worsen the mood of your clan.  Either way, the invaded clan isn't going to be pleased by the raid, whether they won or lost.
  • If you aren't sure in your diplomacy skills, and don't wish to raid, but still want to respond, sending shamans to curse them is probably the best option.  Shamans may not respond, nor may you wish to pay the price, but when successful, it is a bit amusing. Of course, if the other clan discovers the origin of the curse, they will not be pleased.
  • If you're certain in your strength, you can threaten the other clan.  If they are intimidated, they will give you goods as a good-will gesture.  If they feel they have nothing to worry about, they will laugh at your threat, and respect naturally lowers.
