Happens when Feuding with another clan

To strike at a clan's horses is to strike the mobility of its weaponthanes.

Event Dialogue[]

Your carls find <#> of your horses with their throats cut.  The carcasses have been fouled with dung to make them inedible. The weaponthanes were despondent, for by allowing this to happen we had shamed our patron god.
  1. Attack another clan.
  2. Lodge a legal claim against another clan.
  3. Conduct a divination.
  4. Do nothing.
  5. Sacrifice to Elmal Horse-Friend for protection from horse-killers.

King of Dragon Pass

Note:  This dialogue refers to a clan who's chief god is Elmal.  There is a slight variation if you worship Orlanth or Ernalda in the last line before the options.

Consequences[]

This is an extreme act of violence.  As such, it usually only happens by clans which you are in which you are feuding.  Consulting on your clan ring may give some ideas who did this act.

  • If you have a good idea who is responsible, then you can attack in revenge.  However, if you get the wrong clan, then you may make another enemy in addition to the one who perpetrated this act.
  • Such tactics usually happen with a clan ring's knowledge, so unless your lawspeaker is very persuasive, lodging a claim may be a waste of time.
  • Unless you are absolutely certain who is guilty, a successful divination could help guarantee the identity of the perpetrators.
  • Unless you don't want to accidentally accuse the wrong clan, doing nothing is a bad choice.  If nothing else, the morale of the weaponthanes will falter.
  • Probably the safest response, a successful sacrifice will give you better protection.  Failure may invite further attacks.
