A crafter is a farmer assigned to make goods for trade with other clans.
Assigning Crafters[]
From the clan screen, you may assign a number of farmers to lay down their plows and take up their crafting tools.
At the start, there is a limit to the number of crafters you can employ, but this number can increase as you establish shrines and temples to Issaries, place a devotee ofIssaries on your ring, creating trade routes with as many clans as you can, and starting a tribe.
You can assign more farmers as crafters than the ring recommends, but if this happens, productivity suffers. The morale of the carls suffer as well since crafters are given special treatment. Also, be aware that crafters don’t fight as part of the clan’s fyrd.
Goods Production[]
The Crafters button (located in the clan screen) not only lets you change the number of crafters, but also gives a choice about what goods they should make. You start with four initial craft points which let you choose what to make. As you play, your craft points can increase, especially as you establish trade routes, build a level 3 Issaries temple, and form a tribe.
You have a choice between making Plain and Fancy goods. Plain goods (such as bronze jewelry and red pottery) provide a more reliable return. Fancy wares (such as silver jewelry and weapons) are often in greater demand, providing one with more goods in trade, but sometimes the market becomes saturated and you actually get lower yields.
As you explore your tula, you will often come across raw materials that your crafters can fashion into goods. You do need to pick these new resource from the crafting screen. They yield even more trade goods than Plain and Fancy products, but demand can still be unreliable. They are as follows:
Additionally, there is one event, Sacred Stones that can make your crafters even more efficient, allowing you to make more trade goods than before.
